Faces of Sleep : Call for Entries

All mediums of art accepted for consideration.

About the project:

Dr. Alexander Golbin, M.D., Ph.D. is in the process of compiling images to fulfill an approximately 150 page publication of a full color, coffee table book,"Faces of Sleep".

The objective of the book is to communicate the many different aspects of sleep and sleep behavior throughout history, culture, age, gender, relationship, family, occupation, location, stages of sleep, sleeping disorders, etc., through the use of imagery.

Submissions should relate to these topics. Please see the attached rough draft of the table of contents to better understand the scope of the project.

Over 100 images will be needed. All chosen artwork will be included in the publication. The book will predominantly focus on the artwork and all contributing artists will receive acknowledgement for their work.

Awards:

There will be awards distributed for - Best in Book ($100), Second place ($75), Third place ($50), and three Honorable mentions.

In addition to acknowledgement within the published book, the awarded artwork will also be included in the publication of the medical journal "Sleep and Health" as well as on the website www.sleepandhealth.com . The six winning recipients will also receive a copy of the published book.

Submissions:

If you have any artwork, in any medium, that could potentially portray the themes expressed in the contents of the first draft, please send your digital files representing your artwork to mailto facesofsleep

Artwork should be original and in its true form upon submitting to this call for entry. The viewing of submitted artwork will be conducted in a digital format. As a result, slides must be converted to digital format prior to submission.

All artists who enter photographic images that are selected for publication must have, or be able to obtain a model release from any recognizable person(s) in the photo.

We are not set up to handle high resolution image upload at this time. The number of entries is unlimited, but please attach only five submissions per email.

For initial viewing only, please send: JPEG format, 72dpi, no larger than 600 x 600 pixels in either dimension. Each file must not exceed 100k.

Keep in mind however that your artwork could potentially be used in publication and you will need to provide a 300dpi high resolution file for print. In some cases, images will be printed full page, or approximately 8x10” - So high quality digital images of your artwork are essential.

About Dr. Golbin

Dr. Alexander Golbin, M.D., Ph.D. is a renowned Child Psychiatrist, Pediatrician, and a leading expert in pediatric and adult sleep medicine.

His unique blend of experience as a physician and scientist offers an interdisciplinary perspective to the understanding and treatment of sleep disorders in children and adults. He is the author of books: The World of Children’s Sleep” and an international textbook "Sleep Psychiatry".

Dr. Golbin is the former Chairman of the Child Psychiatry Division of Cook County Hospital, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Illinois School of Medicine in Chicago, founder and Medical Director of The Foundation for Children's Sleep Disorders. He is also Editor –in Chief of a public journal “Sleep and Health” available on web: www.sleepandhealth.com.

Dr. Golbin is currently Medical Director of the Sleep and Behavior Medicine Institute accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
